Colored Pencil Workshop for PAGS Sept. 20th, 2008 11 a.m.
What the participants should bring-
Colored pencils
Prepared gourd or gourd piece
Food to share
Folding Chair
Place setting for eating
Pygrography tool
More details-
Bring any colored pencils that you have….do not go out and buy
any for this workshop… if you have none, there will be some you can use at the
workshop
A small gourd such as a banana or minibottle or a piece of a gourd such as a 4”x
4” tile or smaller (any shape) for a magnet or pin. This gourd or piece of a
gourd should have a simple drawing on it that you have pyroengraved before the
workshop. The pyro. work should be simple with no shading… nothing intricate
because you have to re-pryro over the lines after applying the colored pencil.
Your effort should be something like a simple drawing in a primary child’s
coloring book.
Something to share for lunch
A folding chair… there will be some extra available
A large plastic zip locked bag with an inexpensive dinner plate, knife, fork and
spoon, small bowl and or dessert plate and cup. You’ll carry this in, use it,
rinse it and carry it home again to reduce trash. If you forget something will
be provided but you will get a few going-green demerits. Beverages will be
provided.
At the workshop you will be given some additional gourd pieces and basic
instruction and practice. After that you can apply what you have learned to the
gourd or gourd piece that you brought. If time permits, you can repyro. over the
lines to finish your piece and if you want to make an ornament, a hook will be
provided. If you want to make a pin or magnet the pin back or magnet will be
provided. However, to completely finish by re-burning the basic lines would
require you to bring your own pygrography tool. Polyurethane sealant will be
available for you to use.
Directions to Helen’s: Use your favorite PA state road map to get to the
intersection of Rt. 222 and Rt. 568. This intersection is only two miles from my
gourd farm and is near Adamstown, PA along the Berks/Lancaster County line just
north of the Ephrata Turnpike interchange about midway between Philadelphia and
Harrisburg.
From this intersection go east toward Knauers but only about 100 yards from Rt
222 you need to turn onto Deer Creek Road…. It is well marked and there is only
one way to turn onto it. Go along Deer Creek Rd.(you can still see 222 from
here) until you can make the first right (9/10ths of a mile) onto Blimline Road.
This is also marked.
Go along Blimline for about one mile and watch on the right for the large black
mailbox that says Olena. There is a post near the mailbox that has gourds on it.
Come all the way back the gravel driveway about 600’.
For you Internet and GPS savvy folks the exact address is:
